The Griffith Gnat

Good imitation of a small cluster of chironomids, midges.

The Prince Nymph is a standard on many of the rivers in the west. Its white wings sloping up over the herl body must look like candy to trout for I know no other reason why this fly catches so many fish. Tie it in sizes from #8 to #18 and see what I mean.

#12 to #22 dry fly hook

1.       Lay a base of thread and tie in the hackle and peacock herl by their tips. If you are going to twist the herl add a length of black fine thread before twisting. Wrap the herl body to about one eye length behind the eye and tie off. Palmer the hackle through the body and tie off at the end of the body herl. Whip finish and add a drop of cement.
